Recently we found that many Floridian clients are interested in a more energy efficient air conditioner and heating system.
“Today’s best energy efficient air conditioners use 30% to 50% less energy to produce the same amount of cooling as air conditioners made in the mid 1970s. Even if your air conditioner is only 10 years old, you may save 20% to 40% of your cooling energy costs by replacing it with a newer, more efficient model.” energy.gov
Here at Advanced Cooling and Heating Inc., we recommend having a licensed professional first look at your current unit. Many air conditioners are simply not installed correctly. As an unfortunate result, your modern energy efficient air conditioner can perform almost as poorly as older inefficient models.
However, If your air conditioner is installed correctly, or if major installation problems are found and fixed, it will perform energy efficiently for years with only minor routine maintenance.
Proper sizing and installation are key elements in determining the air conditioner efficiency. If the air conditioning unit is too large it will not adequately remove humidity in your home. If the unit is too small it will not be able to attain a comfortable temperature on the hottest days, and constantly cycle on and off.
Other factors that can greatly diminish air conditioner efficiency are;
- Improper unit location
- Lack of insulation
- Improper duct installation
- The amount of glass in your home
- Your home’s exposure
