Palm Beach County is home to millions of people, and plenty of transients. Unfortunately, we hear the same story over and over — people getting involved with bogus contractors in the Palm Beach area.

Advanced Cooling and Heating Inc., suggests when you hire anyone to work on your property make sure that they are a licensed professional. We suggest Floridians always get references and multiple bids on the work. Plus, the golden rule . . . if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

We are sharing the info we just received from the Florida Department of Business Professional Regulation (DBPR).

The Unlicensed Activity Program within the DBPR exists to serve the state of Florida by examining compliance issues, educating consumers about unlicensed activity and thoroughly investigating complaints against unlicensed contractors.

The “Report Unlicensed Activity” function was added to the DBPR Mobile app, which allows Floridians to file a complaint, with up to three photos, directly to DBPR in real time from their smartphones.
Last Fiscal Year 2014-2015, which began July 1, 2014, DBPR had received 2,557 complaints against unlicensed contractors and had issued 1,590 Notices to Cease and Desist against these unlicensed contractors.
DBPR works to maintain the integrity of its licensed professions through proactive enforcement efforts, sweeps and stings, and educating the public at outreach events. Since July 1, 2015, DBPR has conducted 517 outreach events, 473 sweeps and 26 stings across all of its licensed professions.

Floridians are asked to report any suspected unlicensed activity by calling the Unlicensed Activity Hotline at 1(866) 532-1440 or by downloading the free DBPR Mobile app. Unlicensed activity may be reported anonymously through the hotline and the mobile app.
